So a woman I work with has asked me to do a cake. She is a teacher and they have dedicated this years yearbook to a retireing teacher. He is a history teacher, volleyball coach and avid photogropher. She wants to combine all of them in one. I have something in mind but not sure, could use some suggestions. Thanks!

When doing chocolate cake keep the MMF slightly thicker....the lesson I learned yesterday, as I made my final course #3 wedding cake and realized that you could see spots of chocolate through the fondant. *sigh*, luckily it's only for family and friends to eat and they don't care. The cake turned out OK (although I like my 40th anniversary cake better) and now I know for next time :o)

I am so happy with how my in-laws 40th anniversary cake turned out- my first cake for something other than my classes! Noticed in the pics the fondant looks a little lumpy, but I didn't notice that in reality. Everything was done in fondant AND it was also my first attempt at, not only carnations, but also making my own MMF, which tasted sooooo much better than the Wilton store-bought stuff!
My in-laws were so impressed. I don't think that anyone realized just what I could…

As a long time baker who worked in corporate and private bakeries while in college, I was making not purchasing the products and hadn't really considered this concept before, after all, your typical college slave labor is making not much over minimum wage anyway, irregardless of what the bakery is getting paid for your labors. Having raised 6 daughters, I had to purchase 3 wedding cakes over the years as I…

A lot of new contest entries are coming in today. We don't assume you are entering a wedding cake in the contest, since many of the wedding cakes on this site have not been entered. If you do mean to do so, please be sure to make the title of your cake picture - June Bride Contest.
If you are having an issue uploading a picture or figuring out how to do something with your contest entry, please post your question and we'll help you out.

Getting ready to design the four seasons cakes for display at our annual Peach Days Celebration here in LaVerkin, Utah. Doing four seperate cakes, Spring, Summer, Winter & Fall. These will be mock wedding cakes & we are making cupcakes for tasting!! Should be fun but lots of work, have any suggestions for color schemes or what the best material for mock cakes besides styrofoam might be!!!!

I am seeing alot of photos of wedding cakes. If you want your photo featured for the June Bride Contest, make sure you title the photo "June Bride Contest". We have no way of knowing for sure if you are entering the contest unless you title the photo. Without being featured a photo is not up for voting in the contest. If you are unsure, don't hesitate to contact myself, Deah Aldridge or Theresa Happe for help.

Hi Everyone and welcome to all of our new members. With so many signing on board I thought this would be a good time to remind you to title and tag your photos. This is what drives the search engine and makes finding a photo so much faster. When the uploading of your photo has finished, you will be automatically taken to the page where titles and tags are done, often there is already a title there - saved from your computer, change this title to reflect the category of the photo (ie;…

I just ran out of room for new friends on the "We Bake Cakes" Facebook page, so I set up a new page. It's "Cakes We Bake" with the CakesWeBake.com logo. Please feel free to send your cake photos to the new page.

I finished my first fondant cake! So much fun! I added a capful of almond flavouring to the store bought wilton fondant in hopes of making it taste better. I didn't think it tasted that bad! I'm making a cake for my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary this weekend and I'm thinking of trying to make MMF. We'll see how much time I have this week! I also have to make 40 fondant roses for my final course #3 cake next week! I'm using store-bought fondant for those, since I have lots left. I already…

This weekend I completed my first cake for someone other than myself or family. A co-worker's wife was throwing a baby shower and wanted a ladybug cake covered in fondant. Not sure how my name came up to do it but it did - and I did it. I've never done anything that big before and was not sure I could pull it off. But thanks to information & advice from this site (as well as my super 'pit crew' who helped keep my stressing in check) I got it done! Overall I'm pretty happy with how it came…

If you haven't already done so, please join a group that fits the area you live in. If the group does not exist yet, please feel free to make one. We are receiving leads for cakes and I will be posting them in the proper group. This way the message will go to anyone who lives in that area.
Thanks!

Finished Wilton course #2 last week! My final cake turned out pretty good! I enjoyed doing the basketweave and royal icing flowers; hated the birds, but put them on anyway! I have to say, though, people who eat this cake have to REALLY love buttercream icing cuz there's a whole lot of it inside and out! I'm really looking forward to course #3, which I start this Wednesday evening....fondant! I have so many ideas and have been just waiting for fondant instructions! I do know that , eventually, I…
