My 1st Travel "Disaster"

I had my first travel "disaster" with a cake this past weekend, and I was delivering a very large and heavy wedding cake. For some reason, my brain didn't remind me to "glue" the bottom layer cake board to the cake drum. The cake slid right off the drum and was sitting cockeyed in the cargo area of my Explorer.

As for the construction damage, there was none. My brain did tell me to use extra reinforcements in this cake. It had both PVC & dowel rods in it. I did this…

Getting Better All the Time!

It's true you know - Things really do get better with age, time, and practice.

Although I hate to admit is sometimes, I am getting older, but I also think I am getting better. The older I get, the more I like myself and who I've become, I understand more, I've learned what is important and worth fighting for, and I look forward to what the future brings. My youngest just graduated high school about a month ago and is getting ready to leave for college. I am so excited for him, and my… Continue

Word of Mouth

Wow! It's been quite a while since I've been on here. It has been crazy-busy around here. I love it! My business has really picked up over the last 6 weeks, and most of it has been by word of mouth (WoM)! I don't have a free weekend for the next 6 weeks, and I'm really excited about it!

While WoM has been really good to me, I've had several contacts/contracts come from my Facebook postings as well. But all of this really has made me think...If WoM is good for getting me business,… Continue

Upcoming Excitement

Being new to the cake decorating community, I'm sure I'm just a bit over zealous, but I can't help it. I can hardly wait to get my hands in the middle of another project.  I have several upcoming projects, but nothing for the next two weeks, so I decided to do some "organizing" of these upcoming events.

I've created drawings for all the cakes I know I have coming through June 2011.  I've also started on the gum paste flowers (about 50 of them) for a cake I have in just 3 weeks. I am a…

Growing Project

Have you ever had a project that seemed to grow the closer you got to the due date? That seems to be happening to my project for this week.

It started out a couple of weeks ago as 2-two tier cakes and buttercream (someone else is doing the decorating). It then went to 1-three tier cake, buttercream and 48 cupcakes. Now, it's 1-three tier cake, 2-two tier cakes, buttercream, 24 cupcakes, and a batch of fondant.

Don't get me wrong. I'm…

I'm in the mood for...

Have you ever spent a day or two knowing that you wanted something with a certain taste, but just couldn't find it? That's what I've been doing for two days -- I've been craving something with a lemony zing to it. I finally found that taste tonight. My hubby and I made lemon bars together. I wanted one so badly, I didn't wait for them to completely cool before cutting into the pan of gooey, lemony goodness. It hit the spot!

Who knows what could show up on my counter…

Beginner

I am a newbie to cake decorating. I've always loved cooking/baking and have often said, "the more I have to feed, the happier I am." It's a southern thing. ;) I created my first "masterpiece" in May 2010 when my granddaughter brought me pictures of cakes she really liked and asked me to make one for her birthday. Well, neither she nor I knew what kind of desire that was going to spark. I am now addicted. I…
