yeah i use the microwave, i just put a teasoon of butter if i want to carve it,but i butter the container and put astrip of greaseproof paper under so i can loosen it ,but the cling film sounds a great idea, you don't need to crush it when it sets just carve the edges to your shape
i do tend to shape it while it is still warm with butter hands then let it set in the fridge
I made some more last night - and that was even softer! Couldn't work out was I was doing wrong, so tried again this morning. Got interrupted melting the marsh mallows and they started to stick and go hard, so .... I decided to try cooking them for longer than just melting (until they went stringy round the sides of the pan) and it seems to have worked! In fact it may be a tad too hard now - shall have to carve them when they're still warm as they are more brittle now.
I guess this is why some people struggle to make nice soft normal RKT - they over cook the marsh mallow and get rock cakes instead!
Thanks for all your help everyone.
Thanks! I did make it two days in advance...worked fine...I think two days is a good number..
Hi Rosann,
How did you use the ready made rice krispie treats? Did you have to mix it with marshmallows or use it as is?

I read through all the replies quickly and did not see this suggestion.
In a pinch, I bought some ready made I found in the Supermarket...I think Walmart, but it might have been in Publix (Florida Chain). "Kelloggs Rice Krispies Treats, The Original" ....Comes in 2.6 oz block. (unfortunatlely I don't remember the price) BUT it worked fine for me to make the cap of my nurses cap on my UCF nurse cake. Molded very easily in my hands... So if you don't need a large quantity for a project, these would work find for small items. Just a thought.... Happy decorating everyone.
Hello,
I am hoping you guys can help me, I want to make Tinker bell's house to put on my daughters cake, I would like to molded out RKT (is only for decoration) so I was wondering how long in advance would i be able to make it?
should I use a mix of gumpaste/fondant? or just gumpaste?
My daughter's birthday is on November 6, I am afraid I won't be able to get all the stuff done right before the "big day" and I can't let her down, she is really talking about her birth day every day, she is gonna be 3, but boy she has a big personality, I have never seen a kid her age being so involve on her party :)
Thanks aLOT
