Semi Cake Disaster
So, I finished a Super Why themed cake for a co-worker last night. It is for her son's 3rd birthday party today. I call my husband (I'm at work) and ask him to take out the cake and place it on the kitchen table so my co-worker can come and pick it up. I call him about an hour later to see if they had some to pick up the cake when he tells me that our daughter had once again picked at the cake. This is her second offense...this time I'm not at home to fix it! Here are the before, damage and fixed cake? BTW...emphasizing, I am currently at work..he had to fix it. He has no cake decorating skills and no materials to properly fix the damage. All this with our daughter 2 yrs old and our 1 yr old son still runnign around the house and my co-worker on her way to pick up her cake.

Obviously you cant leave the cake where she can get it...she is only 2 and it is in a kid's nature to want to touch everything "Pretty" So leave the cake in the fridge until your customer comes to get it. It will warm up within an hour and the cake will be protected. And your hubby did a good job of fixing it!

You definitely need a permanent solution, like emptying out a cabinet shelf that is out of reach.

I try to always make sure my cakes will fit in a cake box so I don't have these kinds of disasters. This said, the other day I made a cake for a party I was having and since it was staying at my house, I didn't worry about putting it in a box.
That afternoon I was cleaning up the house in preparation for my party when I hear my 2 1/2 year old singing to himself "I eat the flowers, I eat the letters...yummy letters..." At first I wasn't sure what it was about and then it dawned on me! I dashed for the refrigerator and, sure enough, he had eaten 2 fondant roses, some of the buttercream border, and the molded chocolate numbers I had made to go on the top. Luckily I had extra roses, but I didn't have extra numbers and no time to make more, so I put on a molded chocolate butterfly I had made the day before on a whim to see how it would come out, where the divots from the numbers were. He had left the birthday message on the top, however, so that was a plus!

This is the 2nd time she does this. The first time the hubby left the fridge open when he went to prepare her a snack. She snuck up behind him and picked off to pieces of fondant on a cake. I had to replace about 6 inches of fondant to fix the cake. He forgot to keep her out of the kitchen and close the fridge behind him. BTW...she she..knock on wood...hasn't done it to me. I make sure the gate into the kitchen is closed and kids out whenever I'm working on a cake.

I too have a 2 years old picker , she only picks buttercreem ( doesn't like fondant) thank god – I found it cute if it's not someone else's cake

Kudos to your wonderful husband on fixing the cake!
Hmmmnm, I'm sorry but I agree with everyone about the kids.
Perhaps a tiny decorated cupcake for herself and both you and your husband say in a very loving manner, sweetie, this is yours to touch, eat and play. This one we do not touch only look at.
Do that with everything, example: the stereo system, TV controller, Cell Phone, Stove, Oven, CD, DVD - I'm sure you get what I'm suggestion only.
I taught my son & grandchildren with this method without having to say the word "NO" and especially not getting angry and it works. Having an alternative "something to touch" and NOT say word "No" in a loving manner is the key. I hope I have given you a suggestion that might be your positive solution.

My 2 yr old is the poster child for the Terrible 2s! Not that we let her run wild and do as she pleases, when and if she gets over this stage, we will probably suffer from amnesia to remember only the good times.

So I'm not the only Cake person in the world this happens to!!! Makes me feel better!! At least she wasn't found hiding because she was covered in raw eggs and flour!! Laugh it off!! It was bound to happen eventually and at least it wasn't a wedding cake!
