DECORATING A TIERED CAKE WITH FLOWERS INBETWEEN THE TIERS

It is just like those cakes that have the columns between the tiers and then the flowers are placed to hide the columns.  I haven't done one like this but you could just use longer than regular dowels to hold up the layer above and then fill the gap with the flowers.

I have never done it before. What about moist fresh flower oasis, covered with foil (and placed in a shallow container, to protect the cake from damp or water), in between your cake boards and cakes. Then you stick the flowers into the oasis the previous night/day. Keep it refrigerated till you need to assemble the cake. Take everything, cakes and flowered oasis to the venue and assemble it on the spot.

I am also eagerly watching for replies on this one. Such a great place to learn.

no take it from me it will leak.  they do sell the round disks with the holes in that you insert the flowers in. it does hold water and they are made for decorating cakes with flowers , if I undercover mine i have a few , i'l let you know who makes them ; )

ok i have mine its callked a cake vase !kathleens@kathleenscakes.com  or www.cakevase.com made in the US food safe plastic ,comes in a boxs of 3 ,

you can also purchase white styrofoam and place bettween ea layer , get the rose tubes at ACMOORE , the ones with the points so you fill the tubes than stick your flowers roses into the tube than insert the tubes into the foam , depending on what flowers or shapes of the cakes , the tubes are awesome for just putting a few fresh flowers into the cakes also ,, hope this helps.  PS !! I HAD AN FLORIST SHOP OF MY OWN ; )

Mich Turner has an excellent book that shows exactly how to do that type of floral blocking.  The book is called Wedding Cakes by Mich Turner of Little Venice Cake Company.  The technique works great (I have tried it).  She uses 2 inch deep polystyrene blocks that are 4 inches smaller than the cake size they will sit on.  They are held in place by doweling rods (this is where the photos in the book are very helpful).  She also explains how to prepare the flower to go into the foam by wiring the stem.  I was able to check out the book from my library the first time I needed it, but ended up buying the book because I loved it!
