Wilton Instructor!!

I'm a new Wilton Method Instructor at my local Michaels store!!!  I can't believe it! I am soooooo excited to share my passion with others (while earning some extra money!)

I also have been asked by my very best friend to make her a Tiffany's box cake for her reception in August! Her and her husband were married in Switzerland last August and now have a beautiful daughter. They're all coming home to Canada this August to celebrate their first anniversary!

Now…

Summer BBQ!

I was 'elected' to make the cake for our annual street party this year! I had seen some of the BBQ cakes on this site and wanted to try it myself (thanks to all whose ideas I used!!!) Then I had the idea of making it a 'Coleman Stove" since I live on Coleman St! I also wanted to try my sister-in-laws recipe for a lemon poke cake (my fav!) Overall, it didn't take me nearly as long as I thought it would and it turned out exactly as I had pictured! The Poke Cake was amazing! So moist and lemony… Continue

My first Customer!

Whew!! What a crazy week last week was! First I made some mini cakes for 2 staff members who were leaving. I had been wanting to try the mini cakes, so I thought "what better way!?" They turned out OK, although hard to cover with the fondant- they're so small! I used a large cupcake and a mini cupcake in top to make a 2-tiered mini cake. I'll post some pics later.

On top of THAT, I had a friend refer a friend who wanted to 50th wedding anniversary cake for Saturday! I had…

Chocolate Cake...

When doing chocolate cake keep the MMF slightly thicker....the lesson I learned yesterday, as I made my final course #3 wedding cake and realized that you could see spots of chocolate through the fondant. *sigh*, luckily it's only for family and friends to eat and they don't care. The cake turned out OK (although I like my 40th anniversary cake better) and now I know for next time :o)

My First Cake for Others..

I am so happy with how my in-laws 40th anniversary cake turned out- my first cake for something other than my classes! Noticed in the pics the fondant looks a little lumpy, but I didn't notice that in reality. Everything was done in fondant AND it was also my first attempt at, not only carnations, but also making my own MMF, which tasted sooooo much better than the Wilton store-bought stuff!

My in-laws were so impressed. I don't think that anyone realized just what I could…

My First Fondant!

I finished my first fondant cake! So much fun! I added a capful of almond flavouring to the store bought wilton fondant in hopes of making it taste better. I didn't think it tasted that bad! I'm making a cake for my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary this weekend and I'm thinking of trying to make MMF. We'll see how much time I have this week! I also have to make 40 fondant roses for my final course #3 cake next week! I'm using store-bought fondant for those, since I have lots left. I already… Continue

Course #2- DONE!

Finished Wilton course #2 last week! My final cake turned out pretty good! I enjoyed doing the basketweave and royal icing flowers; hated the birds, but put them on anyway! I have to say, though, people who eat this cake have to REALLY love buttercream icing cuz there's a whole lot of it inside and out! I'm really looking forward to course #3, which I start this Wednesday evening....fondant! I have so many ideas and have been just waiting for fondant instructions! I do know that , eventually, I… Continue

My first attempt!

My name is Nadia, and I'm a 32-yr-old business owner in Ontario, Canada. I've just finished Course #1 (intro) of the Wilton Cake Decorating 4-course series, which was held at my local Michael's store. I decided to join the course because I was itching to do something artsy (my business is education-related) and have been watching way too much Cake Boss and Ultimate Cake Off! Since I'm one of those people who looks at stuff and immediately thinks that "I can do that!", I thought I'd put…
