Whew!! What a crazy week last week was! First I made some mini cakes for 2 staff members who were leaving. I had been wanting to try the mini cakes, so I thought "what better way!?" They turned out OK, although hard to cover with the fondant- they're so small! I used a large cupcake and a mini cupcake in top to make a 2-tiered mini cake. I'll post some pics later.
On top of THAT, I had a friend refer a friend who wanted to 50th wedding anniversary cake for Saturday! I had to hand paint the fondant ribbons gold- what a pain!!! I couldn't find any Duff graffiti spray in gold, which is supposedly a lot easy to use....Boy, was I freaking out on Friday!! My cakes didn't seem to want to bake properly, which should have been the easy part!! But, after 10 hours, the cake was done and turned out pretty good! Only 1 more thing left to do after that- deliver it on Saturday! A 45 minute drive down the highway! My boyfriend drove so I could hold the cake...what he calls the most stressful drive he's ever had, and that's saying a lot since the previous "most stressful drive' was the last time he let ME drive somewhere, lol! Well, the cake made it and the customer and her family LOVED it! It looked so pretty sitting on the decorated table! Now, if only I had a kitchen clean up crew...
I start my last Wilton course on Wednesday- Gumpaste and more fondant. Looking forward to furthering my skills. Just wish there were classes on topsy turvey cakes, carving cakes and how to do fondant figures...
