Ok, total change of subject!!! Did everybody see that Sweet Wise has improved "The Mat"??? They also introduced a new mini mat!! Best part, it's only $5.99!!! I don't like using the big mat for some of my smaller cakes, this might be a great alternative :)

Melanie, I love "The Mat" can't wait until mine arrives. What I was not sure of was what is the difference between the Pro and the Home baker one. Do you know?

I just watched the video on the Sweet Wise site and the difference between the Pro and Home mats is size. The Pro Mat is 30" x 30" and covers up to a 20" cake and the Home Mat is 22' x 22" and covers up to a 12" cake. There is also the Mini Mat which is 15" x 15" and they say it is used for cutting smaller pieces of fondant to place on a larger cake, but I don't see why you couldn't use it to cover a smaller cake like maybe a 6" or 9".

These look great but would love to get some feedback from all of you. Does anyone have one of these? Does it work as well as it appears on the videos?

Wow - just watched Sweet Wise video on covering a big cake using this mat.  What a piece of kit that is.  I have heard a lot about it but never seen it demonstrated before.  Melanie, that mini mat really does look like a great idea for smaller cakes - especially for someone like me that is only a funtime caker.  Sadly shipping to the UK by the cheapest method is just over $19!  I see that the cake decorating company is the official retailer for this in the UK and say they will be getting it in soon.  So I might wait and see how much they are going to charge for it.  Thanks for the heads up.

I have the big Mat, I wish I had the home size. I always use it for my 14" cakes and up, sometimes 12" but I find it too big and awkward for smaller cakes. I went to JoAnn's and bought 1 yard (56" wide) clear vinyl. I have a large station, I have it on one side of my counter and leave it there. I roll all my fondant out on it, but when your fondant needs to be rolled out bigger than my rolling pin, it gets hard not to tear the fondant.

Mandy it's is my pleasure! I was telling my mother the other day that I have a group of wonderful friends that I have never met lol! Now I need to check out this Sweet Wise video everyone is talking about :). I just got an email from Cake Central promoting it. You are on a roll!

I have the first edition on and love it. My only complaint was that it would have been nice to hat the markings on it so you knew how big to roll to. But I guess every one else felt the same because that is what they did. For all you who are buying this one you will LOVE IT! it makes rolling and placing fondant so much easier.

As far as the clear imvinyl you can get at Joann's, how do you know it's food safe? Depending on where its made (like China) I wouldn't trust it, it's not worth saving a few dollars if it's made of materials that shouldn't be in contact with food, I would feel horrible (not to mention if you have a business, the legality issues associated with it), if anyone got sick, better safe than sorry.
