Eileen - there is a fine line to steaming. Kind of like steaming your gum paste. A light steam will clean in up, melt the cornstarch or PS remnants. Too much steam and you have a gummy mess.

I've never tried steaming either fondant or gumpaste as I don't have anything to do it with but a tea kettle or a clothes iron! LOL! Can you use a standard hand steamer that you buy to do something like take the wrinkles out of curtains?

For gum paste I use a tea kettle but for a cake you can use a standard clothes steamer.

I just use the steam setting on my iron for my flowers....LOL. I haven't steamed a whole cake yet (will in May) but I'm sure I'll have to find something to use!

the only problem with steam irons is that sometimes water squirts out too. It doesn't happen very ofter though. :) I used my shark mop once! LOL I worked in a pinch! :)

I also love watching Cake Boss. I only dream of becoming that good someday. I would love to be an apprentice working with him just to learn everything he knows.

Bought a small clothing steamer today and tried it out on some butterflies I had made. It worked great!!! I'm hooked. It just sits on the counter and I can just move my elements as close or as far away as I need to get just the right amount of steam. Thanks for the idea, Buddy! ;)

I FINALLY got to see an episode of Cake Boss and its really a WOW for me.. They're simply a fantastic team. The one I saw had Buddy's mother screaming her head off at everyone for agreeing to do a Bacholerette party .. It was really funny. Congrats Buddy... hats off to you

I had the fun of meeting Buddy in person in December when I visited Carlo's Bakery! My husband and I were on a trip to NYC and we took the transit train to Hoboken. Buddy happened to be there that day and was kind enough to come down and pose for a picture with me as did Mauro. He said he is very grateful for all of the support the fans of the show have given him. Very nice guy! His sisters were there too and I saw a couple of the decorators on the show pass through the bakery as they were leaving. I teased Mary about yelling at Buddy all the time. She said "oh I'm not really mad, that's just my personaltiy!" My husband and I walked through the alley behind the bakery and the door was open so we could peek in. I had to see the alley where all of the pranks are played. Remember the episode where they dumped the flour on the delivery boy? Everything we bought was DELICIOUS! When my daughter comes home from college for the summer I'll have her show me how to post the pictures here.
