I have a pasta machine and I'm keen to use it to roll sheets of fondant for my cakes. However how would you stick strips together to make a piece big enough?

Anyone done this before?

It's going to be more useful for rolling out smaller pieces to create other types of decorations.

Theresa is right, I use mine to roll out small pieces and for rolling out gumpaste to make flowers, there is no way you are going to be able to put together pieces big enough to cover a cake.
boo hoo - thought I already had a piece of equipment to help.
The pasta rollers are super nice for your small things but as for a big cake.... you'd need a sheeter.... I want one so bad. But they are sooooo expensive!
where do u find a machine to roll out fondant, and does that work for modleing chocolate, or gumpaste, Yes i know silly question, lol
http://www.smrset.com/fondant-sheeters.shtml here is a link to the somerset sheeters... they are soooo nice but cost an arm and a leg. You'd have to do a lot of cakes to pay for one of them. As for the smaller ones just google pasta rollers... you can get the hand crank ones or the electric ones or the ones that attach to your kitchen aid. nice to have for smaller projects like flowers.
I got my pasta (hand crank) machine... I got it for Mother's Day.... What setting do you roll it to? I was having a hard time. I need to start using it for the flowers and stuff now that I got those down. It is not at all good to roll out sheets, even for the Cricuit, that is what I got it for. I tried to piece them together but that was more trouble.
Gretchen, you will need to roll out your fondant/gumpast thin enough to fit in the machine, if it is too thick, the rollers will just spin and spin, and start on the thickest setting (for me that is a 9) then gradually reduce the setting until you have it as thin as you need it. I find I only use the pasta machine for making gumpaste flowers, it gets it thin and even.

Jaci - I got my pasta machine at Michaels Craft Store, I found it on the aisle for clay crafts.
I used a sheeter at a class and while it's an incredible piece of equipment, it's so big it won't fit in a home kitchen. I could actually lay down and take a nap on one if I pulled my knees up. They cost over $4000.
Ah, to have a sheeter...what an awesome dream..don't wake me up..then i have to roll by hand again..lol

Edna - I have been watching your tutorials. The cakes on your site are beautiful! I love your shell ones!
