Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am so excited to start teaching Course 4!  I have been practicing the flowers, and have made a display board for my store.  Who else is excited?  February just can't come soon enough.

I don't have training until January. I'm looking forward to it.

Where is your training going to be?  I had mine in September, so I have been practicing so I don't forget the "little details."

I received the Home Study packet and have watched the videos on MentorMob, so I'm about as ready as I can be--I'll spend the rest of the time practicing and making up displays for my two stores.

One thing I missed was the first part on making the Briar Rose.  I'll have to go back and look, but I think they may have forgotten to put in the first part of that flower.

A very important note they slip in at the very end of class 4 is how to avoid putting the floral wire, even taped, into the cake.  This is because the wires may contain some toxic materials.  Use fresh flower spikes to fasten them into the cake just to be safe.  They should have mentioned this in each class.

Cyn, I asked that question at training....why don't you stick wire right in the cake.   They said that everything that Wilton makes is food-safe.   I think they are concerned about ingesting wire that breaks off.....which doesn't make sense to me.

Do you have any questions on the Briar Rose?  Maybe I can answer them.

For those of you who work at Michaels.....who knows what the Feb special is, since we don't use Bounce Back Coupons for it anymore?

Thanks Mary, but I got the Briar Rose info already, I'm good with it.  I hadn't heard that the florist wire and tape were specially made by Wilton, but some people won't necessarily buy the Wilton tape and wires, they may use regular florist products, which could be toxic, so it's just better safe than sorry to use the flower spike, rather than the wire.

If it's the case that Wilton wire is non-toxic, they should mention it in the coursework, and remind people not to use regular florist wires.  More information concerning safety is always better.

The specials I heard about were supposed to be buy one get one free, two people in one class, or two classes for one person and the like.  I don't know if they are for February .

Hi Cyn,   I heard similar things about Feb promotions too, I have not heard anything solid, which is odd to me, since we really need to be promoting Feb classes now.

When I was in training, they said everything Wilton makes is food safe, but they stressed over and over again to never put wires in a cake, which is a good thing in my opinion, whether they are food safe or not.  I sure am excited to teach this course!   And I love the new product WIlton came out with last June.  I have not been this excited about new product in a long time!

I'm scheduled to do the first Course 4 Demo on Sat., Feb 4 in the Dayville, CT Michael's, they don't have a teacher trained in it yet to do one for the other Michael's in Lisbon, CT, so I may do it on there Sunday.

No matter what, my teaching schedule is all set for the Course 4 classes in February.

One other question I've heard is whether you have to have completed 1-3 before you can take 4, but in the official training video Rose Wallace says anyone can take it though it will be helpful if they have taken Courses 1 & 3.

So, ideally, we can open this class to anyone out there who is interested in taking it, as well as people who have previously completed the first three courses.

If someone starts with the Course 4, they also may become interested, with some encouragement, in taking the other courses, too.

Sounds all good to me!

I just got the e-mail about the February promotions

hi guys,

im going to my training in Austin on Saturday, really looking forward to it.  I have watched the videos and am all prepped and ready to go.  HOwever being a Hobby Lobby instructor we dont get to start the class till APril which is disappointing, but oh well.  Anyone else going to Austin this weekend?

Selina

Have fun and tell us all about it, Selina!

Hi, I am from Dartmouth Nova Scotia, Canada and I took my Course 4 training in Toronto, Ontario on October 1, 2011.  After the course I emailed my Wilton Supervisor because I still did not know what the prerequisite for Course 4 was.  I was told Course 1 plus Course 2 plus Course 3 was the prerequisite.

Hi Marilyn,

I was told course 1 and Course 3 are the prerequisites, or equivelent experience.
