Cheers and Kudos to all on tons of great photos of some really cool cakes over the past couple of months. Here's a tip:
Mop your floor, THEN photograph your cake, or get yourself, a back drop, or a white box or whatever, or just crop the floor out of the picture.
It's for your own good, really... I'm not gonna name any names but I've taken to looking in the back ground of people's cake pictures and I've seen some pretty gross floors. Now, I'm not one to judge- my floor gets pretty dirty sometimes- but I wouldn't take a picture of it and put it up on my web site.
Just a suggestion, y'all do y'alls thang.
And NEvER, underestimate the power of a good frosting buzzz...
Peace,
JJ

And don't photograph your cakes while in the refrigerator. Actually, we should post a page with tips for photographing photos.
I know... I am always taking a picture of my cake right after I do them on the table with my phone and post them ... and I have all kind of junk in the background, tools, boxes, extra stuff .... and some of them that is the only picture I have because someone has gone off with it. I try to put them on my coffee table ... but I get the sofa, the tv, or some other thing in the background. I need to find a better backdrop!!!!
I did read somewhere you should take them in natural light, but most of the time I am finishing them at midnight!!!! I need to find the best pictures of my cakes and maybe do some croping or fading on one of those fancy programs...........
My floors are mopped before I do a cake and after... just the anal cleaning bug I am... but I have noticed this too and it always makes my stomach jump just a bit when I see less than clean conditions behind a nice cake. Have wanted to say something... so Thank You JJ for stepping up!!!
When I photograph my cakes I always take a minute and clean off the decorating table, throw a table cloth over it and then take the pics. I almost never get the lighting just right but daylight is best I believe. Then I always take more pics after I deliver it if I can.

I just read through this thread (a bit late) and found it so funny.. and so very honest. I am new to the group and the things mentioned here are the exact thing I notice in the pictures right away. I notice the counter tops with clutter, etc. I guess its always best to really look at the picture you are posting and make sure you have cropped out any undesirable elements before uploading. Even better still is to remove the undesirable elements BEFORE you start baking and/or decorating. I also wanted to say that I am loving this website and that everyone's work is amazing!! Truly art.
