I'll be making my girls' kindergarten graduation cake and wanted to add the graduation cap on top of the full slab cake. I'm pretty confident on making the base but its the square part on top that I am unsure of. How can I make it so its stiff and won't fall down at the edges that arent supported by the base? Do I use fondant or gumpaste? Should I just line a square piece of cardboard with fondant?
ANy help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Can I find the tylose powder at Michael's?
Making it ahead of time actually will work out great as the graduation is on a friday and I work fulltime.
Thanks so much for your help!
Michaels has gum tex, which is used to make gum paste.
