I looked around for a tutorial and couldn't find one, but I did find a gum paste mold for a hummingbird.

I made a blue bird out of gumpaste for a cake. I searched the images on google until I found one in the right "pose". I sculpted it by hand out of a ball of white gumpaste, added the wings separately, and stuck toothpicks in for feet. Once it had hardened overnight, I painted it with vodka and paste color mixture. This left it shiny, which would work for a hummingbird. I think petal dust would have worked better, but I don't have any and didn't have time to order. It really only took a few minutes to sculpt, and a little longer to paint because I did it in layers to get the colors right.
Thanks, I think I'm going to try it do this. It's an extra from me (G'ma's cake), so if it doesn't work out it won't be missed :)
I love your hummingbird! Your cake looks beautiful! Congratulations on a cake well done. How did your g'ma like it?
She love it, but bless her heart she was soooo busy it was hard for her to enjoy everything. She told me the next day she was so sorry that she didn't tell everyone that I'd made the cake. (She made a little announcement thanking everyone that helped out.) I told her I hadn't even thought about that & I sure wasn't upset.
I was soooooo happy with the hummingbird & I babied it like crazy. (I know it wasn't spot on perfect, but I didn't care--lol) I told my hubby that if the cake got bumped, I wouldn't care, but if the bird fell I'd cry. BTW--THANK YOU SOO MUCH for your kind & encouraging words.
