Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am decorating a cake for a 21 year old birthday.  My theme is bottles to bottles.  The top tier will have a baby and baby bottles.  The bottom tier will have a young man and beer bottles.  This is the first time I have worked with a fondant/gumpaste mixture, and the first time I have tried figure shaping.  I guess I took too long as some of the man is very dry looking.  Is there anyway to get rid of that look?  Also, is there anything I can brush on the beer bottles to make them look more shiny and more realistic?  I am just a self-taught hobbyist and really have no clue with this one.  Thanks!
