Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone!  I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance on making a damask cake.  I definitely would not know how to pipe it so I was thinking of buying a stencil and using royal icing.  Any ideas?  Would this be very time consuming?  I would appreciate your comments as soon as possible as I need to respond to a customer but want to make sure I can do before I say "yest" since this would be my first time.  Thanks.

The Elegant Cake for the cricuit would have those patterns. Of course they might not be exact. I think you would have to make your own stencil to be exact to the invitation. Remember with the Cricuit you have to cut that pattern 3" or larger. Are you going to do it in black on a white fondant? That is such a pretty look. I have never done it, but have the Cricuit and that cartiage. Good Luck.... I know how you feel about new techniques. I have a Noah's Ark cake for this weekend and am scared to start making sclupted animals.
I know, I took a Wilton Class in June, and the Yearbook was our gift for the month. Well I turned in the form and am still waiting for it. I was hoping to have it by now. I think that is why I haven't started yet. I have looked at some videos and think I can do them..... Just nervous they don't just look like blobs and look like what they should.

It's actually going to be a girl so I'm thinking a pale pink with the black damask. It also has a baby carriage with polka dots and I'm thinking doing the baby carriage in black with the pink polka dots.

That sounds pretty.... Can't wait to see what you do.

Thanks. I appreciate your help.
I have one also to do for the following sunday the 29th so was interested in what people had to say. The order that I have is for a hot pink & black damask for a bridal shower. Ordered the damask stencil from global sugar art it is on its way. Have watched the video many times on there site on how to do it on buttercream iced cakes.
I would love to see the cake and find out how you felt about doing it. Thanks for your input.
Funny this just came up.... I met with a bride's mother last night... for the 3rd time. I have done several designs for them... and we just did not click until last night... I knew she was looking at the damask design so I ordered the stencils.... in blind faith that they would be "the ones" I actually stayed up late one night while we were in Maui and placed my order! And I got an email from her yesterday with a picture of a cake they loved... and IT HAD THE SAME STENCIL SET USED ON IT!!! Could not believe my luck! Here is the link to the stencil set that I bought...

I also ordered Linda McClures DVD... Creative Designs Damask Wedding Cakes. It does use the Cricut and it does have a DVD of Designs you can use for your cakes. I am going to see about cutting my own stencils to use on my cricut. Don't know if it will work but sure going to see... Will let you know. Everything came today and I plan to watch the DVD's tonight if I have time there are 3 DVD's in the case and they were only $39.99 here is the link to them

Thanks. I'm no longer going to make the demask cake but I am sure getting prepared for one! Life is funny sometimes. Someone up there knew you were getting an order!!! :) I'm glad you are able to use the stencils. I'm excited for you. I really want to know how it comes out. Send me a picture of the cake. I have the McClure's "Creative Designs" DVD but not that one. Now you have gotten me excited and I'll have to order it. Wish you luck! Don't forget to get back to me.
Watched the DVD's last night and as always, Linda did a very good job with it. There are a lot of designs with it. For this cake, I am using the stencils that I bought but am going to get a cake mat for my cricut and some new blades that have not been used for paper and maybe give it a shot. I just have a thing about using my paper cricut for gumpaste... not sure if I can step over that line or not. I don't want it messed up for my paper crafts!!! I can use the designs to cut stencils though!!! Love her information on how to import a picture from scrapbook paper or whatever into the computer and then cut it out on the cricut. Very good DVD's Worth the investment!
