I am so glad I am doing a practice run of my purse cake. I am following a video tutorial (using my own pattern), and that doesn't seem to be the problem. I used my chocolate cake recipe and have…Continue

I want everybody's thoughts on what their favorite fondant is and why. I have done Satin Ice, Duff, and I recently saw a video on utube which adds Wilton to MMF. Just want to hear some opinions. …Continue
Wow, Jean, that is a lot of stars, nice work.
Wow! My hands ache just thinking about all that piping!! Nice job!
Hey Melanie,
I pray I don't do another spiderman no time soon.
I am new to this discussion. I took Wiltons course 1 and 2 about 15 years ago. I was working full time and still had 2 kids (teenagers) at home. I didnt get to practice much....no time. So now, Im retired, kids have left the nest, and I am decorating! I still call everything a 'practice' cake. But I LOVE to do it. I make cakes for everyone. Kids, grandkids, you name it, they all have a theme they want me to copy. I have just ventured into fondant. i have done a few fondant flowers and figurines, but now Im moving on to cakes. So I am loving this discussion. i ordered The Mat last week. It should be here in a couple of days. I cant wait!!
Rock on Jean - you sure did kick Spiderman's butt - good job.
Yeh June - boo hoos for me lol. But I did get it rolled out and then a 16" square for the board too! I have discovered that mmf is much more forgiving than normal fondant (regalice whatever). But this chocolate mmf I had to make with Galaxy chocolate as it's the only brand my nut allergy sufferer isn't allergic too. It was OK, but needed to have a stronger choc flavour (not possible with Galaxy).
The Mat came today! Happy me! Now I want to decorate a cake in fondant.
I like to make 'practice' cakes, but then what do you do with them? We dont want them hanging around here! Too tempting to eat!!
