I am new to this discussion. I took Wiltons course 1 and 2 about 15 years ago. I was working full time and still had 2 kids (teenagers) at home. I didnt get to practice much....no time. So now, Im  retired, kids have left the nest, and I am decorating! I still call everything a 'practice' cake. But I LOVE to do it. I make cakes for everyone. Kids, grandkids, you name it, they all have a theme they want me to copy. I have just ventured into fondant. i have done a few fondant flowers and figurines, but now Im moving on to cakes. So I am loving this discussion. i ordered The Mat last week. It should be here in a couple of days. I cant wait!!

Rock on Jean - you sure did kick Spiderman's butt - good job.

Yeh June - boo hoos for me lol.  But I did get it rolled out and then a 16" square for the board too!  I have discovered that mmf is much more forgiving than normal fondant (regalice whatever).  But this chocolate mmf I had to make with Galaxy chocolate as it's the only brand my nut allergy sufferer isn't allergic too.  It was OK, but needed to have a stronger choc flavour (not possible with Galaxy).

Why do I keep getting these new customers that are asking for the impossible cake?? Ugh! What's even more aggravating is when I say I can do it, and then spend days going over details, they can't commit once they hear the price!! Why do people ask for $200 cakes, but then they are shocked when it's over $50! Do people not get that I'm not paid for the 25 messages sent back and forth, and the time I spent researching the perfect impossible cake picture to send to them! Sorry, had to vent! :/

The Mat came today! Happy me! Now I want to decorate a cake in fondant.

I like to make 'practice' cakes, but then what do you do with them? We dont want them hanging around here! Too tempting to eat!!
