So glad to hear I'm not the only SAHM that does not sleep when flowers and figures are being made. I even had to work today, on a Sunday! And best of all my business is only at the beginner stage. I do agree that the best time to be creative is when every one around you is asleep. Fortunately I have my two sons with me 25 and 34, and they pitch in a lot with the cooking and cleaning.( The elder one is a programmer and works from home and the younger is a final year student.) Yaahn! I can do with some sleep right now.

Girls girls girls - it's like reading my memoirs hehehehe This schweet mamma works from Mondays to Fridays, 7.20 am - 4pm, and then in the evenings I bake and create and prepare for the weekends!  I have a fabulous husband who helps a lot with making any stands etc. and a very artistic married daughter who will come and spend a night or two if there are extra hands needed!  She is totally avant garde and looks at cake thru an artist' eye and is not scared to try new stuff - bless her!  And as for the sleep deprivation - I have pulled many a near sleepless night but have honestly found that as I have had more experience I am better prepared and spend a lot of time in planning my cakes so that by the time I put them together, I generally already have all the decoration bits made and then its only a matter of filling in with the finishing touches.  I generally bake my choc cakes for weekends on a Tuesday night and vanilla on a wednesday, don't freeze them as I start putting together with fillings et al on a thursday night and of course friday is frenzy night and generally very little sleep - but ask me if I would rather be doing anything else? Heck, no!  I feel alive and using my creative talents and I confess that my decoration passion stems directly from an earnest beseeching to the Lord to show me what I could do with my talents after a very long 6 years of mourning the death of my 23 year old son - and I tell you gals, my son would be so very proud of me and I don't doubt he wouldv'e given a hand too, as he was a dab hand in the kitchen.  Happy Monday all :-)

Just brought tears to my eyes, but loved reading your memoir, Mandy.  I have never thought that I could find such a great 'loving place' where not only we share our passion for cake decorating, but a little bit of ourselves. It only makes everything better and perfect, and gives you the strength to move forward, BIG HUGS to everyone with all my heart...(Melanie you started this conversation and looked where it led us, thank you)
