I want everybody's thoughts on what their favorite fondant is and why. I have done Satin Ice, Duff, and I recently saw a video on utube which adds Wilton to MMF. Just want to hear some opinions. …Continue
Hello All, I just joined this group and I am so excited to be apart of this group. I am self taught besides taking a Wilton class here and there. I want to know if any one have any information on using the Disney Pans. I was told that when you sale a cake you can purchase items to put on the cake, but you can not sale a Disney shaped or image of Disney cake. Can someone please help clear my mind on this matter?
Cha-Cha Bake, Denise is right. I have researched this extensively and found the same info. If you look on the inserts that come with the pans it has a disclaimer somewhere (if I remember correctly) that they are not for "commercial" use. Commercial means for sale or profit whether you are running a licensed business or not. If you were making it for a friend or family member that you are not charging, then you are ok. But they are not intended to be used for profit. I used to work for a commercial grocery bakery and we had to learn all the do's and don't s of copyright. In some instances it's a fine line so you have to be careful.
I do see a lot of people that are doing it though, so if you have someone ask you why you can't, you can just tell them they are doing so at their own risks.
I'm curious, Stephanie, since I don't know all that much about this subject, aren't trade mark things okay, though, such as Coca Cola logo or any trade mark logo for that matter? I use to do some pixel art for someone and they said as long as it was a trade mark item, it was okay. But not copy-writed material. What are your thoughts on this? I've never bothered to research, so don't really know.
I'm also new to this site. I was recently at the Wilton school in Chicago for an indepth Masters course which in cluded a tour of their facilities. What they explained is that Dicney character pans are made for home use. In other words you can make them for friends and family as long as it is not commercial use or for profit.
Welcome to our wonderful group Maggie and Cha-Cha!
Hi Maggie that is true you can use the Disney pans and characters for home if you like but if you wont to sell them you have to buy your permeation from Disney
Thanks everyone, that was good information. When I think of it, this is why the stores like Publix, Kroger and Walmart sell cakes with gift sets and air brush on it. That's how I will do it for now on. Thanks so much for the warm welcome and information.
Linda, the way it was explained to me is a very fine line, most of the time it is never a big deal, but "technically" you are supposed to get permission to use someone's logo's or likeness if it has been copyrighted for any commercial gain, but it really is not something I have EVER seen enforced. However, working for Kash-n-karry, they never wanted to take a chance and we were not allowed to replicate anything copyrighted unless you have permissions, but since so much stuff is available in the public domain so they tend to leave it up to the decorator's judgement, so we never really worried about it.
Another thing is we were not supposed to deviate from the stylings of the cake kits in the book either, something about the contract with the vendors. I guess the contract is to sell technically not the cake kit, but the "image" of what they had designed it to be. It was pretty dang stupid and would totally drive me nuts :(
June thank you for that comment. When I created this group I never thought grow this much. I never saw an outlet for people like me that were creative and taught themselves to decorate cakes. Everyday I see new conversations and excited new members. I love bringing people together I look forward to see where we can go from here :).
