Do you have a model? If you do, photograph the car from the side and from the top. Using transpartent paper, trace the car from the pictures you took. Enlarge the drawing to the size of cake you will be carving. Cut out the drawing. Put the cut out on the cake and carve around the drawing. Let me know if you have any questions.

Lightening McQueen car.  I found that using an oval tin and then slicing the long sides off the cake, after measuring that is, made a perfect roof for the car.

For the lightening McQueen cake I read a lot of online tutorials.   What I ended up doing for the cake is making a loaf pan and the top of the car was a smaller round pan.   Then I carved everything out.  One thing I would do better next time is to make sure to carve a big enough space for the wheels.
