Hi! I have taken all of the Wilton classes but the rest of the cake decorating I have taught myself through books and online like Cake Central and this website.

Hi, my name is Julie. I got started working in a wholesale bakery (cakes on an assembly line- boring); and that taught me just how to ice a sheet and round, shell border, and buttercream roses. Everything else I learned from books, experimentation, and for the last year or so the internet. Normally I only get to do a handful of cakes a year (maybe 2-6) but I'm trying to keep my momentum going so I can keep improving my skills.

Just curious as to what books or dvds everyone has found the most useful/inspiring. My personal favorites are the Whimsical Bakehouse books (though I don't have the kids yet); Colette Peters Birthday Cakes (cakes to dream on is still on the wish list); Martha Stewart's Wedding cake book, Rose levy-bernbaum's The Cake Bible, and Margaret Braun's Cakewalk (that's just inspiration for now- I'm still not sure I could pull those off).

Does anyone know of more detailed books on gumpaste figures that would deal with more intricate figures, and wire supports? I can't find anything besides more basic figures, usually sitting down
