LOL!! Too true! I just made my husband a bday cake today & my bday is next wed. So guess what, I can either buy mine or learn to make my own. I love love love ice cream cakes, especially carvel. Sooo, instead of spending $30 on one(the last couple of years since he's been deployed I would just always get a big one to cover mothers day & my birthday) but I want to learn to make them so I can put them in my portfolio. So looks like I'll be using your recipes off your other site (cake decorating corner) for my ice cream cake this year. good luck to me. :) lol

I hear ya! I'm making a 75th birthday cake for my dad on my birthday. It's a big b-day for him, so how can I not?

The closest I have come to someone making me a birthday cake is years ago, my husband tried to make me a chocolate and peanut butter checkered cake. He ended up using like three cake mixes for the one cake for just the two of us. Oh, well at least he tried. Haven't had one since.

OH! SOO WRONG! lol I just watched a episode of Cake Boss, where Buddy had to do 3 cakes for Bride Magazine & then his sisters tricked him into making his own birthday cake. LOL He made himself a boat cake. Thats just soo wrong, I immediatly thought of this group. LOL

You know, my daughter likes to bake but she always compares her cakes to mine so she apologizes for them not being decorative enough. She doesn't understand that I don't put my expectations for myself on her.

My birthday is in a few weeks. Last year I made a cake for someone else on my birthday. One year I was at Baskin Robbins buying my own cake at the last minutes of my birthday. I have ordered a cake for myself on my birthday. I do think a few years ago my grandmother and my aunt (with down's) made me a cake when we had dinner like 2 weeks later, that was special. Well we will see in a few weeks what I get.

My daughters decorated a Mother's Day Cake for me this year (they are 7 and 6). I had an extra 6" round in the freezer I took out, and leftover frosting from the Littlest Pet Shop cake I had made (lots of fun colors). I let them pick the tips, I showed them how to hold the bags and let them go to town. I'll post the picture of the results. I also gave them two small half-ball cakes to decorate for themselves.

I wanted to make myself a cake last year and my other half wouldn't let me - can see his point but didn't want to have to have a yucky shop-bought cake just because I'm the only one who bakes! This year, he's promised me that he's not only going to make me a cake but a unicorn cake no less! We shall see....

My wonderful sister made me a small personal cake a few years ago for my birthday, My husband had taken me out for dinner that night and I was STUFFED so I didn't eat the cake that night, apparantely my husband thought it was up for grabs, and when I came home from work the next day the cake was gone :( I still won't let him live that one down!!!!!
