Hi! I'm from Cambridge, Ontario.  I started cake decorating with a course through our local Community College about 13 years ago.  Still lots to learn but I LOVE it!!!!

Hi Kimberly, Welcome! I live in rural New Brunswick. Retired from bakery/decorator. Retired early by the way! I do a little decorating from home just for close friends.

Hi everyone.  I just found this website today.  I am from McGregor, a small town outside of Windsor ON.  I was thinking of one day selling cakes professionally but I found out about all the hoops you have to jump through in Canada so I am planning on just keeping it as a hobby for family and friends.  I am looking forward to exchanging ideas with everybody.

Hey Kylene
My understanding is even if you sell just a few cakes, you can claim your supplies. I have begun saving my receipts because I just retired so it now maybe worth it will little income coming in to get that $$$$ back. You can also "incorporate" yourself for right offs. I believe it depends on your local Health Dept. Everyone can naturally understand the cleanliness needed in making food for the public. I ran a daycare in my home when my children were small, and claimed my income because I gave out receipts. I made out like a bandit. I had to follow the guidelines set out by the Prov govt. They sent me a pamphlet. I have been thinking about going on the govt website and having info mailed to me so I can read up on it. I also belong to The Canadian Cake Decorating Guild. Ck it out. They may have a chapter near you. I have an aquatance in Port Lampert/Lambert.

Thanks June for the info.  I will definitely check it out.  I believe the Canadian Cake Decorating Guild has just started in Windsor.  I will be joining it soon.  I will let you know what I find out.

Hello! I was looking around this site, trying to figure out where the recipes are posted, when I found the Canadian group! I'm a hobby baker trying to learn as much as possible and hoping to start my own business one day. I am making my first wedding cake for a friend's sister next spring, so I'll be trying out fondant and multiple tiers for the first time! Has anyone tried the fabric fondant sheets yet?!

Hey Suzanne

I am from Burlington, On.  Where in Canada are you from?  You will find a lot of good info here. If you want some awesome recipes, check out Jeri C's page.  She just posted some easy, from cake mix, tasy sounding cakes.  I'm going to try her coconut cake.
