Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am going to be making ladybug themed baby shower cake in a few weeks.  I know that if the buttercream I am using has butter in it, then the cake should be refrigerated.  For this cake I plan on covering it with fondant after I put a nice coat of buttercream on it.  I need to decorate and finish this cake the night before the shower, because I have a newborn at home and I don't want to wait until the last minute to finish it.  How should I store this cake until it's time for the baby shower?  I know that it's a big NO NO to put the cake back in the refrigerator with fondant already on it.

Please help.  Thanks!!!

Thanks Sherry! Yes, I've seen Buddy put all of his cakes in the fridge too. I'm just not a fan of using all shortening in my buttercream... and everyone loves my buttercream. I'm thinking about making a batch of buttercream with 1 cup shortening and 2 sticks salted butter instead of the unsalted butter. The salt in the butter acts as a preservative... maybe this will work. :)
I did this with a chocolate buttercream with fondant over it. I put in in the fridge the night before then pulled it out the next day in time for the party and it was perfectly fine! Good luck! Cant wait to see pics!
I forgot to share that I covered it loosely with plastic wrap overnight then took it out the next morning to add decorations(over the fondant) then put it back in the fridge with nothing around it for a few hours.

A buttercream recipe with butter in it does not necessarily require refrigeration.....I only put mine in the fridge if I'm waiting more than 5 days or so to use it...and I've never had a problem keeping it out or pulling it out after a few days and using it....
Thanks everyone. I can hardly wait to make and decorate the cake! It's been a few months since I've made a cake.... like a kid in a candy store!!! :)
The high percentage of sugar in the buttercream prevents it from going bad when not refrigerated.
Lindsey, I make my buttercream with Butter and Shortening all the time and totally leave it out on the counter, with no problems at all. Even if I cover it with fondant I leave it on the counter ( lightly covered with a clean light weight tea towel), just incase of dust etc. in the air. This has worked for me every time. Good luck with your lady bug cake.
Thanks Theresa and Sharon. I will let you all know how my cake turns out!
