Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

We are going to be opening our first shop soon and would like to make dummy cakes to put in the window to showcase what we offer.  Can anyone tell me how you keep the cake looking good for an extended time (rather than just a dummy cake that is used for practice etc.).

Thanks

Danielle

check out "Perma-Ice". Never used it but it looks like it solves the problems you'd get from icing with BC or royal.

That looks great for BC cakes (and I can get it in Australia) but any idea for fondant cakes?

use ivory colored base ise, because with will discolor... if in reachable area for customers use silk or fabric flowers not gum paste, because somehow the flowers ALWAYS get broken...

I worked in a shop that used satin ice (bucket regular edible fondant) for dummy cakes and it held up for a few years without any issues.  We are in Phoenix, az though so the dryness might help

We use satin ice for our real cakes but I figured that with dust and light that it would look bad pretty fast.  Melbourne can also be quite humid at times...

for fondant, how about an air-dry clay? then paint it whatever color you need it to be. no fading and washable.
