Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi there

Newbie and inspired.

I need some book suggestions - so if anyone could help.

I'm a good baker, but I need to learn how to use fondant icing, and gum paste (what the hell is it?)  and all the other fun things.

Thanks in advance

Wendy, here are some complete books, free online...each page has a magnifying glass so if you hit that it enlarges the page, you can also print....great stuff here

OMGosh thanks!
My favorite are Sharon Zambito's DVD's Her Flawless Fondant DVD is wonderful and you can watch her do it opposed to a book explaning it. can't beat Sherry's price though!
There are also a ton of videos you can watch via Youtube (which is also free). Just search for what you want. Search for Edna De La Cruz, she has several tutorial videos on icing a cake, making fondant bows, buttercream flowers, etc. Go to her profile page and you'll see all of her videos.
You can also find basic tutorials on how to different buttercream borders and flowers, just do a search for buttercream decorating or covering a cake with fondant, it's all out there, free! :)
