I just can't seem to get these tappits to work! I do everything as instructed but can not produce a single letter with out it breaking. If you use these how do you do it?

There are some tricks to them. Check out this YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyS7msb13jE&feature=related
Once you figure them out you will love them! Edna has some great tutorials on You Tube using them but here is what I do...

You need to use Gumpaste NOT fondant. Fondant is too sticky and they just stick to the cutters.

Roll your gumpaste very thin and I allow mine to set for a few minutes to dry a bit. Cut your gumpaste in small pieces the size of the letter you want... press the letter into the gumpaste and lift it. Sometimes it sticks to the tappit and I just use the sharp pointy tool... I think it is a stiletto... to go around the edge and then it comes right out.

When I first started using them I was ready to trash them... .but now I love them! Don't give up... letting the gumpaste set and dry is the key.
Thanks Deah - I'll give this a try.
Thank you Jeri - I'll let you know how I go this weekend.

This is the only way I can get them to work - roll out the gumpaste/fondant very thin. Place it on parchment paper or wax paper, then place a piece of saran wrap over it and press the Tappit on it. Then remove the plastic wrap and use a sharp knife to trim the excess. Let it dry a bit before you attempt to move it. Much easier this way!
Wow Sherry... that seems like a lot of work to cut around them. Try letting the gumpaste sit and dry a bit... you will save yourself a ton of work.
if they on the one that looks like a ruler, i don;t like it either, they are so small, and even when you let them set you pick them up and twist, to me they are more work than what they are worth, took me way to much time
I bought a couple of those spatter screens that you put over a fry pan to keep the grease from spattering and I set it on top of a pan. I put my letters onto the screen and the air circulates around them to dry. I let them sit for 3 or 4 days to dry and they turn out great. I love the funky letters. The others are really small but the funkys are bigger.
