I'm upset

I can't sell ... the people think my price are too high...

I start $2.50 per too tiers, $3 x 3 tiers and $4 x 4 tiers, If the cake is cover with fondant I'll charging $10 per tier...

I charged for the wedding cake on the picture $ 800 (Serves 200)

Please let me know your opinion... thanks...

They are lucky to get a cake that beautiful for only 800.00  Some people just don't understand how much work goes into making a cake. Its a lot of hard work and takes a lot of time. I think that is a fair price for your cake.
It really depends on where you are located.  Pricing can vary.   Your work is amazing and all I can say is work smarter not harder.... you could lower your price and kill yourself doing cake after cake after cake and not make much profit from it or you can do less cakes for the price you deserve and enjoy more time to yourself.  People do not understand the hours it takes to make all the flowers and details that goes into a cake.  I would sit down with them and let them know how many hours it will take you to complete the job when you give them a price.  If they do not think your time is worth it...it is their loss!

The cake you have on this post... did you make it or is it a cake that you are going to make?  I see in a previous thread that you asked about the seperators for this cake so I am thinking this is not your work maybe?

first of all, i must say, that is a beautiful cake, and your prices are not high, that comes out to $4.00 per slice.  I would usually charge more myself, especially since you have gumpaste flowers, any gumpaste work i always add on depending on how many flowers is needed.

I think your basic pricing is fair.  The tier thing doesn't make sense.  Tiers are different diameters.

 

I also agree with the poster who said cake is cake - I charge the same for servings no matter what - I don't care what you do with it.  I charge extra for however you need it decorated.

I charge extra for wedding cakes- they automatically go into my top tier of pricing for decoration because people want their wedding cakes to look perfect; I want them too as well because weddings are great places to sell a wedding cake to your next customer.  So yes, I do care what you do with our cake and I want to know if it is going to a function where it will be seen by hundreds of people in a formal setting, versus going to little Timmy's birthday party to be fingered by twenty children.  Either way I want to provide a cake that is going to appeal to my target demographic from the group that will be seeing it.  The more information you have about your "audience"  the better chance you have to turn every sale into a marketing opportunity.

Shouldn't we have this attitude toward every cake that leaves our door?  I honestly dont care if it's a wedding or birthday, I charge the same because the same amount of effort goes in to them for me.  I want them all perfect and want them all to appeal to the next customer. 

 

Actually, serving per serving, wedding cakes are usually less work, not so many colors to mix as with birthday or other occasions cakes.

 

Now we have to look at this as a whole picture.  I said I charge the same per serving.  Decorating?  That's a whole other ballgame.  Different decorating techniques cause the price of a cake to rise.  But the cake itself - same price per serving - I still don't care what you do with it.

What a gorgeous cake!

i just lost a weddding cake, because of all the extras the bride wanted and didnt want to pay for them. I charge as dawn charges, an amount by serving,plus the extra amount for decorations. This bride only wanted to pay the serving amount, i tried to help her, i showed her other cakes that didnt involve so much work and lusters, and pearls and edible diamonds, but she said she wanted that one and only wanted to pay $250.00 for a cake that would serve 180 people.  So i told her i couldnt do her cake, and no one else would for that price. So i think you just need to simplify the way you charge. If you change it to per serving(keep in mind some people want more than the serving allowed, because so brides also want people to be able to take cake home as well). Then add on any extra cost,flowers,etc. delivery, then you will not be cutting yourself short.

Good for you, Monica!!  WTG!  It costs what it costs and every one has to accept it or not buy.  I think cars cost at least twice what they should cost - but I've yet to find a dealership that agrees with me.  And butter- don't even get me started.  I have to pay what people charge me - and I have to pass on that practice to my customers... or go out of business.

LOL , dawn you are so right, i have a customer who always gets her party cakes, so every year at the same time, i know i will hear from her.  I have had to do a price increase because of butter and boxes. She is fine with it, sometimes you get those customers who want to take advantage,those, i dont have time for. But the ones i have who keeps coming back are jems. I know all brides are stressed, i refuse to be stressed with them. Because at the end of the day you have to pay for your supplies, we are not trying to get over on people, it is what it is. When you do find that dealership, let me know LOL!!!!
