Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Okay so I thought I had nailed making my own MMF, but after I let the fondant rest for the 12 hours it was supposed to, the consistency changed completely.  So here is the recipe I used....

16 oz. marshmallows

6 cups powdered sugar

1 Tbls. walter

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 Tbls. Corn Syrup.

So I greased up the bowl and the spoon, poured the marshmallows, water, corn syrup and extract into the bowl microwaved in 30 second intervals for one and a half minutes...stirred well and add one cup at a time for three cups and then took the remaining three cups and put on a counter top and then poured out the marshmallow mixture and kneaded in the sugar.  So after I did this the consistency was exactly right and I was so excited that I had finally mastered making fondant.  I greased it up and wrapped it in saran and then put in zip top bag to let it sit for 12 hours...and then when I unwrapped it, it looked like in the video I attached.  Can someone please help me.  I love working with fondant, but want people to like the way it tastes instead of peeling it off.  I have had this trouble before and have gotten so much advice as to what to do, but none of it worked.  I have tried several recipes...still not right.  Can someone please solve this for me I am desperate.  I have two cakes next week that I would like to make fondant for.

UGHHHHHH....I made some yesterday & I've tasted it, but I haven't tried working with it yet. I didn't add vanilla or corn syrup to mine so there's no telling what I'm going to get, lol.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. :(
I hope yours will be better. It seems I am the only person though that has a problem with Fondant making. :-) Totally frustrating, because it is so expensive to purchase plus it tastes awful...to make it is cheap and tastes yummy.

Melissa, are you set on MMF? If not, this is the recipe I use and everyone likes it - http://www.cakeswebake.com/forum/topics/michele-fosters-fondant-copied
I've had my fondant go all mushy on me so I refrigerated it for a little while and it firmed up. (It was hot that day).
Thanks so much I am not set on MMF...I just want a tasty fondant. Something people won't peel off when they eat a slice. I will try this recipe as well. I am not going to give up until I master fondant.

One thing to keep in mind -- you won't convert everyone into fondant lovers. I used to bother me that people didn't like something I made. Doesn't stop me from finding the best recipe though. I have converted some fondant haters.
i use 2 small bags of mini marshmallows 2 tblsp water and heat like you in micro then out into my greased mixer bowl and add 3 cups icing sugar vanilla essence and lemon juice just a splash of each then m ix & its perfect every time keeps for weeks and i just heat for a few seconds to soften when i have it left it for a while and its gone really hard
