Attaching stems to gumpaste flowers
I am making a flower pot cake this week and want to start making the gumpaste daisies and daffodils that will be growing out of the "dirt" in my all cake & fondant flower pot. I have researched flower making methods and bought all the tools, but never gave any thought to attaching the wire stems. Am I correct to assume the wires are inserted somehow before drying? How do you then lay the flowers to dry in the forms? Please help... the clock is ticking!

It depends on the flower... I have not mastered it yet for all flowers but I use gum glue to attach them for most flowers. Am interested to see response from others to see how they do it!

Thanks jeri c... now to find some gum glue. It will probably work for the daisies; not so sure about the trumpet shaped daffodils though.

gum glue is just tylose powder mixed with water. A little powder makes a nice size container. Works great!

You have to bend the wire into a hook shape at the end and put that through a ball of gum paste. The hook prevents it from falling out.

Hi Carol..
There are quite a few tutorials on youtube that you may want to look at..as Jeri stated below, it really does depend on the flower you are making....many flowers are done in two parts..being ..you make the center first let them dry over night and then you add onto the base the next day.
For gum glue.... just take a small piece of your gum paste and add some very hot water to dissolve, and you will be all set to glue.

Good to know. I have watched the tutorial for roses done this way with a small bead of gumpaste dried on the hooked wire. Didn't think that would work with the types I'm making. I guess I'll have to experiment a little. I have a lot to learn.

Or, if you are using premade gum paste, just use a small piece of gum paste. I typically use the hard edges of the gum paste lump. If you use hot water the gum paste will melt quicker.
