Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Ok... I may be unique in the situation that i find myself in- good thing, and bad thing.

Its that cake decorating is not so much of a big thing here in Dominica.. fondant is a rarity, and finding someone who can work with it well it even more rare. That puts me in a good position to take advantage of that...

HOWEVER... since that is the case.. there are no tools and supplies available on island for workign with fondant such as cutters, molds, shaping tools, luster and petal dusts, cake boards even!!

Where do you all get your supplies and tools?

I get some of my supplies locally, then most of my other stuff I order online from the US. There are lots of great sites that sell cake supplies at affordable pricesnout there!
Have you ever tried making marshmallow fondant? If it's hard for you to get fondant, making your own might be useful!
Yup.. Its the only one i use so far.. i have been considering making regular fondant. With powdered sugar, glycerine, glucose ect... have you tried that?
I live in the US now so I get my supplies in the area I live in. It has 4 stores I shop at and I also order online as well. I also make most of my own templates and cupcake stands. I got lots of ideas from youtube and some blogs

Hi All, I'm new.

I am from Guyanan South America.

I have problem geting tools here too, only wilton I would get here, I would normally order my tools oline.

Did any one ever try the mmf? I tried it but found it don't like our weather, I had sweating problem with it especially when it's raining, even if it does not rain it just don't dry like store bought (Wilton fondant) I'm looking for a home made fondant that taste as good as mmf.

Hi Corrie:

Welcome to the group!

I had good and bad experiences with MMF so I buy Satin Ice fondant...i'm never making fondant again! See if you can find the gelatin fondant online. I tried it once and it work...no clue where the recipe is. You have to be precise with the gelatin otherwise you will  have serious issues....like cracking if too much is used.

All the best!

Thanks for the welcome and advice, I was wondering if the saltine Ice would like our weather, I will order a small batch and see how it works and also  I'll try the gelatine.
