Ive seen some plastic dowels... but they are too long? thats what stumped me?
Hi Debbie,
You can use wooden or plastic dowels. Both you can cut to meet your cake height requirement! I would measure first with the dowel the height you need, mark it and then cut it. Depending on the size of your 2nd tier make sure you have enough support on the bottom tier to hold the weight of the top!!
Hope these links help:

Its Important that you use dowels, because it will support the weight of the top tier and not end up crushing your bottom tear. micheal's & walmart sell thin wooden dowels you ca easily cut. Make sure to also put your top tier on cardboard as well, that way cutting it would be a breeze & adds to the support of the dowels. Hope it helps! :)
