Because of a time issue, I dont have time to make patterns for gingerbread to make a gingerbread house as a centerpiece for a Christmas event; but I dont want a premade gingerbread kit. I love playing with my boys with their lincoln logs and thought about making just a bunch of logs made with gingerbread dough and constructing the gingerbread house with that. Has anyone ever done that before?
If you are going to make logs and take all that time doing so then you have time to cut a gingerbread house out. There are plenty of free gingerbread patterns available on the internet, just download and print....Premade kits can be customized so you dont even know it is a premade kit. All premade kits are just already-baked pieces you put together. Maybe a kit is what you need. It will save time cuting and baking. You can buy your own candies etc for decorating. Royal icing is easy peasy....
By the way if you make logs you will have lots of space between each one and will have to fill it with alot of icing......the issue is the fit...lincoln logs are precut to fit...you will have a challenge making gingerbread logs like lincoln logs....JMHO
I buy gingerbread house kits. LOL. It's more about the decorating for my kids than anything else. I get out my "toys" and extra candies and such and let them go to town! It's really hard not to kibitz. This year I found a little village kit - so each kid gets their own house!! Awesome! No more arguing over someone being sloppy or doing the window THEY wanted to do. :) Maybe some day when I have spare time I'll get into trying to do my own house patterns and such, but for now we like the kits.

Time issue was more pressing than I thought and ended up not doing this! :(
