Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have searched the internet for not just edible diamonds, but the ones that are on strings (like a string of pearls).  Has anyone ever purchased these or made them yourself? The ones the bride wants is in a book and they are small square edible diamonds that wrap around the cake. they are strung together. Iam assuming the string would be  thread or dental floss, does anyone know? any tips on how i can string the edible diamonds together myself once i buy them?

Hi Monica
greetings from Ireland, you can purchase the diamonds you spoke about from an english company called, Squires Kitchen.com, but they are expensive, if you do a google search, i know there is another u.k company that do courses, and supply edible jewellery in london, but i think the whole jewellery business was started in the good old usa, .....hope this helps, also i think i saw diamonds in sur la table 4 wks ago in new york.....hoe this helps

Hi Monica,

I've seen them here: http://www.thebakerskitchen.net/edible-diamonds-and-gemstones.aspx, but I haven't ordered them. Hope it works out for you!
U can make the string of pearls urself using tooth floss, a needle and the size u want using gumpaste balls. I made several before. It's very, very easy. Two ideas i can come up with to string diamonds. Heat a needle and press it into the diamond until it comes thru the other side, After you're finish then string them all. The next idea using edible glue and dental foss. U use it by putting edible glue on the back of the diamond and press the floss on it keep it in place for a few mintues and so on. Like I said these are some ideas. Good luck!!!

that really helps, great idea!!!! thanks alicia

your welcome Monica
Wow, $77.95 for edible diamonds and it doesn't look like there are very many of them! I wonder how much the cake would cost!

I know! It's too pricey for me, but like Monica, I'm going to make some on my own. Hopefully they work out!

yeah, I was thinking of the idea of making your own. I didn't suggest it because I tried to make translucent blue butterflies with sugar once and it was a disaster. I would love to figure out how to do that. I have no experience whatsoever though. I haven't even utubed it. There must be a way to make it on your own though. Kind of like fondant is very expensive but if you make your own it is just as good (for me anyway) and way less expensive. Just time consuming and messy.

Hi wendy, it is easy to make your own diamonds, i have made my own diamond rings for an engagment cake, i made molds of three types of diamonds using silocone molds and a plastic diamond mold set used for chocolate, i cut each mold out and made a silicone mold which then allowed me to use the isomalt, and made them into 3 rings to place of the 3 tier cake. In order to make your own diamonds all you need is isomalt and a jewelry mold for hard candies ( u can get both from www.sugarcraft.com). sugarcraft also have instructions on how to use it. Also WWW.sugarteachers.blogspot.com is a good one for tutorials, they have one on making your own jewelry using isomalt. it is easy, i just was trying to skip doing it,but i see i have no choice for you are correct, purchasing them is just to much money. give it a try, good luck!!

Wow, this is such good information. thanks! I am going to copy it and paste this information on my computer in Word as a document so I can try it myself. I really would like to shape other things besides diamonds. Maybe diamonds too some day - you never know, but this is really good. Thanks.

I'm sure it's too late for your use, but for the future this may help. I found it just this evening when I was trying to learn some new sugar techniques.

This seems to be a reasonably priced, pre-made mold you can buy to make your own strung gems using Isomalt:

Good luck!
