Okay, so I decided to go for it when I made my grandmother's birthday cake - she deserves it, after all, for her 85th birthday, right? So... I made and "85" out of gum paste/marshmallow fondant mixture, and 20 daisies, as well. I was happy with the results. But I learned a good lesson... candles and marshmallow fondant don't mix. Notice the "8"... It looks like a roasted marshmallow... smelled like one, too, lol. Anyway, for my first attempt at a topsy-turvy AND my first try at gumpaste flowers, I was pleased. :)
I love it!! You did an excellent job! I am going to try my first topsy turvy cake when I make my oldest's 11th birthday cake, altho she has changed her mind about the design a few times already! :o)

I think it looks great! And who doesn't love roasted marshmellows??
If you have any advice on how to make a tpsy-turvy cake, I would appreciate it. I've yet to try to make one & honestly don't even know where to begin.
Oh that is beautiful and I love everything on it, including the great smelling marshmallow fondant, LOL. I truly enjoy roasting marshmallows when we are out camping and it is a must for me. It brings the kid out in me at my age and who doesn't like to go back in time when they are a kid.
Colors of your cake are extremely cheerful.
Very Nice Job!
Thanks, y'all! It took me a while to get back on here... I am a full-time teacher, and my students came back a week ago today. On top of that, I had THREE cakes last week. I think I lost my mind when I agreed to that, lol. Thanks for your votes of confidence. I made another topsy turvy over the weekend, and it was "topsy turvier" that this one - to the point of making me be scared it was going to topple over... Oops!
And the marshmallows... I think I'll use that as a selling point, lol!
By the way, I think my grandmother thought I had messed her cake up, until someone explained that it was SUPPSOSED to lean! ;)
Colleen - I printed out the 85 on Word using the Curlz font. I covered the paper with saran wrap and traced the 85 with my fondant/gum paste and let it dry. Oh, and I put lollipop sticks in them so they would stand up. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy, lol!
I really like your color choices, Jennifer -- enough contrast to be lively and they work well together. That's cute that your grandma thought there was something wrong with the cake. I haven't made a topsy turvy yet but I want to. :)
