Hi Debbie, We have a few videos in the video section that should help. Have your cake really cold before you apply the fondant. Smooth the top first and work your way down the sides. Pick the fondant up at the edge to straighten out the creases and smooth as you remove those creases. Using a fondant smoother helps. When it's smooth to the bottom, trim the edge with a pizza cutter. Make sure you work in a cool kitchen, because summer heat creates air bubbles and soft fondant.
thank you theresa, thats really helpful advice.it has been very warm here in london for a change, and i have been having a problem with the fondant tearing to. i will certainly check out the videos.

I am one that never puts my cake in the cooler before I apply the fondant. Funny how we all do it differently. I do put my buttercream on the night before and let the cake sit over night in a cool room before I put the fondant on but never put it in the cooler. I do smooth the top first then kind of run my hand around the top edge and work down to make sure there are not any bubbles. The fondant smoother is a must for those smooth finishes. I have several of them but I always go back to my little white wilton one. For some reason I like it best.
thank you jeri, again very good advice. i think i will try to buttercream the cake the night before this time as i havn't done it like that before.the only problem i will have then is keeping the hubby away from the cake overnight lol
cheers again

I keep the cake scraps for my husband as soon as I level the dome off the top of the cake I put it in a covered plastic bowl and give hubby some left over icing.... he's usually in heaven!
