Yes June, God is so good!  And, I learned a lot of time to trust in God's timing.  Those seeds you planted could blossom into a full blown Christian relationship with Christ when you least expect it.  So keep those prayers going.  Thank you for your kind words about my ministry and my cakes.

Have a great day!

Phil

Gotta say Phil, God did bless you with amazing talent!!! My hats off to you being a Youth Pastor. Helped with a children's ministry long, long ago when my children were small. And with the youngins that needed care while church was on.Lots of prayer & help from the other ladies really helped. Fond memories. They are now 33 (daughter ) & 29 ( son ). Sadly they don't attend church now. But I did plant "seeds" & I continue to pray. God is good.... :o)
Welcome to a great site with great cakers, great info & great inspiration.

Thanks Joann!

I already enjoy it and have seen some pretty cool stuff.  I was reading your earlier remarks about putting down Ideas on paper first.  I operate just like you do.  I very seldom have people tell me exactly what they want me to do and I never tell them what the cake will look like ahead of time.  There's just too many directions that a cake can go in and sometimes an idea on a flat page does not translate as well in 3D or in icing.  So my clients just give me the theme and I 'surprise' them.  Like you, I've hardly ever had anyone complain about that process.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Phil

Well, Phil, I didn't realize you were a Christian! How awesome is THAT! I'm always excited to find a fellow believer in Christ. June (up above) and I are prayer partners along with having formed a very close friendship here on Cakes We Bake because of our united faith in Christ. Welcome to Cakes We Bake. We are one of the closest knit bunch of bakers you will ever find.

Hello!  My Name is Phil and I am from the State of Ohio in The USA!  I found Cakes We Bake a few weeks ago when searching for an idea image on google for a cake I was doing.  I love the sight and already have learned a lot and met some pretty neat folks from all over the place.  Amazing!

I am 42 years old and have a beautiful wife and two boys. One Teenager (14) and a Kindergartener (5).  He was our little miracle baby and somedays we feel too old for this, but we love every minute of it and he keeps us young! :)

I am a Children's Pastor at a decent sized church here in Ohio.  I work with kids from birth up to 6th grade.  We have about 300 kids in these age groups each Wednesday and Sunday.  It is a total blessing to my life to teach the kids about Jesus.

In college I worked in the grocery industry to pay my way through school. I became bakery/Deli manager for an Ohio based grocery for about 5 years.  I learned the basics of cake decorating at that time but never did anything with it after college ended.  3 years ago my son, then 12 wanted a Mario Cake for his birthday. My wife and I were watching Cake Boss one night and he was using modeling chocolate and kept saying it was like working with clay.  My wife said "I bet you could make a Mario for this cake so we don't have to buy that cheap looking but expensive plastic stuff."  I love to work with clay so this is the basis of her thinking that I could do this.

We looked up a recipe for homemade modeling chocolate and I tried it - the rest is history.  I remember a fairly delicious buttercream recipe from my grocery days and so the cake was a huge hit.  I had lots of people asking if I would make them cakes at that point.  About 6 months later we had loads of people asking for 3D cakes and sculpted cakes because noone in our area did anything like that.  And so we started taking orders and selling cakes out of our home on the weekends and now pretty much book up 3 to 4 months in advance.  It has been a total blessing for us.  I'm so grateful for the natural talent that God has given me to do this!  Outside of the little grocery training I had, I've learned everything else on my own through trial and error.  It has been an amazing ride and I love making cakes for people and praying over the families that I'm making them for, every weekend.

I get most of my business from facebook which was amazing to me when I started.  I posted a cake pic on there one day to show my family out West and that's when I started getting order requests.  The amazing benefit of technology...   (Feel free to take a look at my page and pics... Center Stage Cakes)

I love this site and can't wait to get to know more of the nice people on here.  I've learned a ton already!!

Blessings,

Phil V.

Oh Phil - it'll probably end up being more than once a day, if you're anything like me!

Pretty awesome stuff Linda!  Nice to have other believing bakers in my midst! ;)   Ministry is everywhere - so glad that you and many other believers, I'm sure, are on here connecting through cakes and Christ!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi! I am JaTaen from Lynchburg VA. I have been baking since I was a child. It has always been my stress relief. I took my first cake decorating class in 2010 and have been eager to learn more ever since. I do cakes mostly for family and a few extended friends. I am torn between making it a business and continuing as an intense hobby. I also am a staff accountant and have to deal with the first quarter or so of the year being tax season.  I dont have as much time to practice designs as I would like to, but i'm realizing that slow and steady can still win the race. Im here to learn as much as I can and get tips and techniques from those with more experience than myself. I hope to add pics soon.

Welcome JaTaen.  Like you, I do cakes for family & close friends only.  Although I love decorating, I think I would soon get tired of it if I had to do it as a business.  This way I decorate only when I'm in the mood.

HAHA!  Hooked.
