hey frens... i belong to a community called JAINS and I am an INDIAN... we jains are strictly vegetarians.. meaning no flesh no egg no killing of other beings.. for any fondant or paste we have to use gelatin (an animal bone content)... i have tried agar agar n caribben gum but nothing seems to work... its hard to not to use fondants as it is so beautiful.. can anybody try n tell as to what vegetarian ingredient can replace gelatin... it will be a gr8 achievement.. pls lets all try it.. what say..?

Hi Deepti - don't know if this will help at all. It also uses agar powder, but has the whole process covered.

This is the recipe I basically gave Deepti Katy. Can you use shortening Deepti? I do believe vegans can. If so you can make rolled buttercream. Not exactly fondant, but fondant like. Rolls out like fondant.
1 cuplight corn syrup
1 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
2 pounds confectioners' sugar
You should check to see if your sugar is animal-free, and the same with the glycerine ..
