Found this recipe Deepti. Most of the vegan recipes call for agar powder or flakes. Most use the flakes, maybe it achieves better results than the powder. Of course you need organic/vegan icing sugar.  You can make your own icing sugar by placing 1 cup sugar & 1 tblsp cornstarch/cornflower in the blender. Blend for about 10-20 secs.... wha la.... icing sugar.
I have seen a site that uses Dandies brand gelatin free marshmallows, but apparently, they are pricey.
Don't know if you can use butter, but you can make what is called a Rolled Buttercream. I have used that and it is somewhat like fondant.  Hope this helps.  :o)

Hi Deepti - don't know if this will help at all.  It also uses agar powder, but has the whole process covered.

This is the recipe I basically gave Deepti Katy.  Can you use shortening Deepti? I do believe vegans can.   If so you can make rolled buttercream. Not exactly fondant, but fondant like. Rolls out like fondant.

  • 1 cuplight corn syrup

  • 1 cup shortening

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract

  • 2 pounds confectioners' sugar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the shortening and corn syrup. Mix in the salt and vanilla flavoring, then gradually mix in the confectioners' sugar until it is a stiff dough. If you are using a stand mixer, use the dough hook attachment. Otherwise, knead by hand. If the dough is sticky, knead in more confectioners' sugar until it is smooth. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
  2. To use, roll out on a clean surface that has been dusted with confectioners' sugar until it is 1/8 inch thick or thinner if you can. Drape over frosted and chilled cakes and smooth the sides down, or cut into strips to make bows and other decorations.
  •                 PREP                                                10 mins
  •                 READY IN                                                10 mins

You should check to see if your sugar is animal-free, and the same with the glycerine ..

In Canada you can buy organic icing sugar, no animals used in the process. Not sure where Deepti resides. No glycerin in recipe I posted.
