Hello cake artists!

I'm Chris Flesner, the developer of TieredCaker.  I found this thread through a google search, and thought I'd drop in and see if anybody had any questions about the app.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for responding to this thread. I was wondering, are you a cake decorator? How did you come up with the idea for this app?

Good question, and thanks for your interest :)

I'm not a cake decorator myself, but my wife is an aspiring one.  Basically, we both felt that there was a serious lack of apps for the cake world, and thought maybe we could do something about that.

The two of us brainstormed for a while to try to come up with something that would really be useful and innovative.  I don't really remember which one of us had the idea first (it was probably her though), but we eventually came up with the idea of a calculator that would tell you the tier combinations that could be used to get to a desired number of servings.  That was basically the whole idea at first, which is now just the Calculator section of the TieredCaker app.  My wife was already in love with the idea at this point though, because she always hated trying to reference charts to figure out what size tiers to make.

Then as I began prototyping the app, I started adding additional features that seemed like they would be useful.  As I would come up with features, I would bounce the ideas off of my wife to make sure they would actually be helpful to cake decorators.  I learned a lot about cakes during my research and planning!  

Through the course of making TieredCaker, we also came up with six other app idea that we intend to release.  Our plan is for our software to eventually cover all of the needs of the modern cake artist :)

Looks like it would be a very useful App. Your site looks good. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in Itunes. Good Luck and can't wait to see what you come up with next.

PS - I LOVE that not only do you have different serving sizes, but give the dimensions of those sizes! That's the worst referencing all those charts for serving amounts.

Referencing charts is never fun, especially when an app can just figure it out for you :)
