I don't know for sure Gail, but I would guess not. Pastillage is very brittle and I guess would break. Wouldn't fondant just go sticky again?
iv been told thats how to get the shine ?? on fondant ?
Come on brave girl - give a go and let me know. I'm too terrified to even try steaming, 'cos I know everything will just sag and probably drop off lol!
ok i'l give it a go , justgot a new mini steamer ! i'l let you know ; ))
Yes
I have steamed a fondant cake & flowers. makes them very shiny. Depending on the weather how long it lasts. If you want a permanent shine, there are edible sprays you can buy. I had a great hand held steamer, well 2 actually, but they were cheapies, and they both broke. Can't afford the industrial kind they use in the stores for clothes. They work the best, and they have a nice long hose to bring over to the project your working on.
As far as your pastillage. Wait until it is hard and apply some sort of shellac/varnish. Your not going to eat it anyway. But of course, if you are placing the pastillage item directly on a cake, then you would have to investigate a food safe varnish. Believe it or not, good old fashioned Elmers glue IS food safe. I have used it on my gumpaste figures to give a shine.
HUMM I GUESS I WILL FIND SOME KIND OF GLAZE FOR THEM DUE TO THE KIDS MY EAT THEM ,
Well
You can't eat the pastillage Gail... yuk... not meant to be eaten, just used for molding models and such. Besides, it would break your teeth I am pretty sure.... :o) They sell edible spray lacquer at globalsugararts...but it is very expensive. Hence...why I don't have it. I found a homemade version of edible shine varnish on the web, but it sounded messy. Equal parts of clear corn syrup and something else, can't remember. But didn't venture to try it.
HUMM MAYBE I'L LOOK FOR THE RECIPE , !
LOL IF I HAD SOME TEETH THEY WOULD BREAK , LOL I WOULDNT WANT THE KIDS TO BREAK THERES , I THIN MY SISTER INLAW MAY WANT TO SAVE THEM , SHE DUZ SOME TIMES ,
