Hi Michelle, yes I'm in the UK and the weather isn't great. Saying that we've had some hot weather (34 degrees C - hot for us) this October so far. We are normally around 16-20, so it's been a little strange getting the summer clothes out. Anyway, just looked out of the window & it looks like we are back on track for a cooler day, the weather man says highs of 15, ok coat time, it's no wonder we all get colds lol.
I live in Croydon, Surrey - but put London on my profile as I'm not too far from there and people outside of the UK know of it.
When I do the cakes with tiny details I do make the pieces in advances. For the Bubble bath cake I was making tiny bathbombs, hair straighteners etc for about 5 nights before I even baked the cake. I keep them in a cardboard cake box to dry and pop on once the cake is iced. We have central heating here too, so my house is normally kept around 22 degrees.
When I'm running out of time I sometimes end up burning the candle at both ends. Going to bed at 4am and then being woken my children at 6. I seem to be able to do this every other night if I need to. My youngest will start Kindergarten next September - then I'll stop being a vampire cake maker & take advantage of natural light lol.
Cambridge is about a 4.5 hour drive from us (mainly due to traffic).
It's been lovely to meet you on this site.

Thank you for your praise Michelle - I'm
Very flattered. Up until April 2011 I only made for family & friends. By popular demand I set up
My own company 'Fondant Fetish - the art of sugar' and it's going really well. I have enough work to handle as I operate from home and have 3 small children as well (2,4 &6 years). It's all done once they are tucked up in bed. Good luck with your square cake. I've just bought a styrofoam square to experiment on with Fondant funnily enough. I'm not bD with Fondant but the square does look a little daunting. Tx

i think being self taught is the best way to learn...may get difficult at times...but ur work speaks for itself, i have not even seen people who have passed out from a decoratign school do work even close to yours...its just taht u r super talented :)....and the butterfly garden cake...gosh the...amount of details in that cake is phew !...

i too am learning thru online videos n stuff... and have just recently started taking orders.....infact have a cake to go this weekend...so nervous about coverign a square cake with fondant...hope it turns out ok...

what confuses me  more than the decoration is how much batter to put in a cake tin since i bake  one layer at a time...i mean u know halving a recipie and then wonderign how high the cake will be and then yeah pricing it....

ur cakes r all oders right or u just make them for family?

Hi Michelle,
Thank you for liking my work. Of course I don't mind people taking inspiration from my cakes, at the end of the day everyone will put their own spin on it anyway. I'm going to invest in a decent video camera & might start to film little things that I make. I wrote up the tutorial on making the coach & it would have been so much easier to just have posted a video. I'm self taught, so sometimes my terminology or the way I do things might not be "correct" - but they work for me lol. Thanks again. Tracy x
