Winter Holiday Cake Contest

Three-tier red velvet with creamcheese frosting and filling. Figures are fondant, snowflakes are sugarpaste, bottles and ornaments are poured sugar, ribbons are pulled sugar. Had a lot of fun with this cake. What do ya'll think? Thanks for looking!

Comment by Heather Crouch on January 4, 2011 at 11:05am: This was the first time I've ever worked with sugar poured or pulled. I used the makeyourownmold.com tutorial for a beer bottle to make the wine bottle, and ornament molds. Broke a lot of them before these came out. As for the pulled ribbons, the left over isomalt mixture from the bottle and ornaments, I poured it on a rolling mat, burned myself alot, just kept pulling and folding until it hardened to much to pull anymore. It was a lot of fun, dispite the burns.

I really liked it and have been experimenting on my friends since. I have sold one cake so far. Hopefully more to come!
