Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My Grandson is off on Monday to go travelling to Thailand and Australia, plus it's his birthday on Thursday next week. So we are having a party for him tonight. I wanted to do something that would combine all elements - birthday, travel and countries. So I did cupcakes with a Thailand theme and cake with Aus theme. Buddha is a freehand 'replica' of the Koh Samui Temple Buddha, made with 50/50 fondant and gumpaste and sprayed in gold. Coconut cupcakes with lime butter icing topped with miniature buddhas (from a mould), and a dummy boarding pass for his flights.

Thank you so much Maria.  Yes it's a Wilton 1M - love that nozzle, it gives great results.  Glad you approve of the Buddha too!

Thanks very much June.  Cakes all tasted pretty good.  The coconut milk mixed with lemon juice worked fine instead of the buttermilk and I did find some coconut essence in the end at Sugar Shack, so it had a double whammy of flavouring!  I've been to Thailand too and enjoyed it, also Australia - wonderful place.  Jordi told us last night that they intend to get over to New Zealand too - now I really envy him, I loved that country when I visited.  He wants to visit places where the Lord of the Rings was filmed.

Wow! Beautiful cupcakes, I love the swirl. What tip did you use? Wilton 1 M?The Buddha is very nice. I have it as a present when my husband arrived from Thailand.

Wow Katy

So very cool. Great job. Your cupcakes look fab and sound yummy.   My son, Chris, has been to Thailand,  but not AU. Loved it.  :o )

Cheers Gail!  Knew you'd like that colour... Buddha is about 5" tall.  I put him on a raised up block to more resemble the temple entrance.

Thank you Mandy - they're not as good as yours, but they'll do!  I like that colour too, came out nice - spring green and citrus yellow mixed.  Yes, we will miss him, but I'm so excited for him for such a wonderful opportunity (and just a teeny bit envious).
