I want to use this as a separator for the Scarlet Macaw cake. I do not know if I will be heavily penalized for not covering it with fondant. Any thoughts? Thanks.

It is likely, Bonnie, that both of you are correct. I think it probably depends upon the show and the level of competitors and judges. At our state fair, I am guessing that it will not make a lot of difference, but in Oklahoma, at the huge Tulsa show, I think everything better be edible if you want to be considered, at least on the outside :o)
I really appreciate everyone's input and support!
she was so much fun to be with !
What Katy said makes sense! Never looked at it that way. When they use the plastic columns to separate layers, they don't cover them. Thanks Katy for giving me the proper perspective on this.
She sounds like a really neat person with whom you enjoyed spending time. Lucky girl.
lol , I know what your saying , I didn't know my mother in law my mans mom , entered it ! , lol , she surprised me with it yr's ago , , I know if she was still with us she would be doing it again , lol , on 1 of her visit with us , she took me to Norman Rockwell's art museum ! it was awesome !
Oh Gali, you goof! Your stuff would win awards no matter where it was entered or the competition you were facing! If I do not win, my feelings will surely NOT be hurt. I am doing this for fun, learning experience and to meet new cake friends. If I do win, I will jump up and down and make a complete fool of myself :o)
oh that's cool Sandra , ! my mother in law entered 1 on my carving into a fair like that by lake airy ny , /pa , I won 2nd prize !, so I am sure you will win !
Thanks, Katy. As I said, I have never even been to a cake show and this is just a state fair....not like the Tulsa, OK state fair! They really didn't give any rules. I suspect it will depend solely upon the folks doing the judging and whether or not they are "cakes".
My ten pennyworth (for what it's worth). If you are going to use this as a separator Sandra, I see no reason why it should have to be fondant (or covered). Separators are not usually covered. I would expect the rules only to be that everything referring to the cake would have to be 'edible'.
It certainly is unique, and sort of classy too!
