I am not familiar w/ patterned paste. I will check into it. I am assuming that it is fondant? Gumpaste wouldn't taste very good, right? I'd like to know more about this. Where can I get more information about it?

There is another way to do this and its called patterned paste, but it takes a bit of practice

I airbrushed irregular shaped strips of various colors...pink, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple. I did purple and blue last. I tried to put colors together that looked good together like pink, blue, purple and then yellow, green, orange and it worked pretty well. You don't really see it until you get finished. Then I oversprayed it with pearl lustre airbrush spray w/ my airbrush. Fun, Fun, Fun!!! Thank you all for the compliments. I can hardly hold my head up now! haha
