Thank you all.  Anne, I cut thin strips of each color and then just did an over & under with the strips to get that look.  Was trying to match the actual sneaker.  It's a little time consuming and one of them I had trouble because the fondant/gumpaste mixture was already get too dry.  I almost redid it but then decided to just go with it as is.
