Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi All,

I am wondering if any of you have an alternative to Almond extract and Vodka to make gumpaste look shiny.

Gum arabic also works a treat and it's edible. I have seen on other forums that 'Sprink' works really well. The only thing is the gumpaste or fondant will absorb it after a while (hours), so you need to apply it a little before you display it.

I thank you all for your replies. I has helped a lot. I will show pictures of the flowers when I finish them. They will be going on a wedding cake in Oct.

Once again Thanks. I some how knew I could count on you all for a solution.

Lots of Love this beautiful Friday.

I didnt understand it was for flowers: sorry, i that case i would simply brush some edible laquer on them  (recipe found online), but basically you just put some unflavored gelitine in a bowl with 2tblspn of water, let it bloom to that add light corn syrup and piping gel, microwave and brush it on, when it dries it will give a permanent shine.  I do this on all my flowers

Thanks Monica. I will have to try that.

I want to buy confectioners glaze bit haven't found it yet - we brush on piping gel in the meantime. It is nice and shiny but doesn't really dry.
