For those who are big fans of Ron Ben-Israel's cake decorating. I think his work is amazing. Wish he'd write a book! And I love looking at the cakes on his website. I have a feeling others here would agree with me.

With so many awesome sugar art/ gumpaste masters out there. Ron Ben-Israel is my current favorite...his work is just breath taking and something to really aspire to :) All I have to do is look at his flowers and I'm off again to make more gumpaste..lol.

He is amazing - and fun - the Satin Ice videos were good for those of us who can't attend a class. Also just going through the slideshows of cakes in the gallery on his website is a treat.

you were asking about dusting flowers. I understand he dusts them before they are put on the cake. If you look at pictures of his kitchen you will see loads of plastic boxes filled with ready made and dusted flowers. I understand that steaming them after dusting sets the powder so it won't fall off and stain the cake. It also adds a little shine to the flower.

hi all just to say i agree with Dorit, making quite a lot of flowers myself i usually make them in coloured flower paste a shade or 2 lighter than what i want and then just dust and shade them to make them look more real. steaming them makes them look slightly shiny but if you want a matt look or you want to add more colour you can re-dust them when they're dry, for a very glossy finish i spray mine with edible varnish.

Hi, how's everyone doing? I just saw the peonies on Facebook and must say, if you haven't taken a look at them, you really should! :) Here are a couple of links. If you have Facebook, there are good pictures on RBI's page there.
