That Chinese wedding cake ROCKS! The color is so unexpected it knocked my socks off. I was expecting reds and golds. And the PANDAS!

What things have you learned from Ron Ben-Israel's work that you want to incorporate into your philosophy or practice when doing your own cakes?

For me, it's the attention to perfection and detail. And, of course, I mentioned the color sense. I think I have a pretty good color sense, but one can always learn new things from studying a master! :)

I would think if he puts the petal dusts on the flowers before putting the flowers on the cake, there shouldn't be an issue of the dusts getting onto the cake. I know some of the dusts or metallic powders go on dry with a brush, and others you use a little extract or vodka or something to help them stick...?

Another thing he does that I think is cool is how he adds these little dot or line patterns to the fondant or icing - very subtle yet they keep the cake from looking totally plain.

The flowers are indeed gorgeous! Also just the overall level of creativity. I recommend linking to him on Facebook too. Today there was a cute "Max" birthday cake that popped up. Maybe some of you have seen it.

He has a couple of instructional videos on Satin Ice's website. Some other decorators there too.

He shows  how to make this cool Valentine's cake with a big red rose that has more petals around it and the petals form a heart. Gorgeous. And it's fun to watch him work - the video goes kind of fast, but enough to get the idea.

Thanks, I certainly will have a look.

This week he is giving a flower workshop and also 2 masterclasses here in Israel, but they are horribly expensive.
